Watercolor papers

Here is a class sample showing the versatility of water color papers. There are so many ways to use them. It's almost like painting with paper. Just when you think you have exhausted the possibilities you discover an new way to incorporate them. I like the Paplin colors the best.

I just found your wonderful blog! I have 2 questions about your using watercolour paper. Do you paint white watercolour paper and cut it into strips? Or are you using some kind of coloured paper that is called "watercolour" paper?

Second question is, what's the best way to make quilling strips? I can't getting quilling supplies in Israel and I'd like to try cutting my own strips. Any chance that you might write a blog posting on the subject? ;-)

Watercolor papers come in Paplin papers and UK papers that can be purchased at Whimsiquills,Custom Quilling and I think Lake City. click on the side panel for the website. I have painted white strips but have only used them a couple of times. I have inked the edges of strips with better success.

I have use a paper cutter with the triple track feature to cut 1/16 inch to 3/8 inch strips. http://www.fiskarscrafts.com/tools/t_premiumcrafterstrimmer.aspx
I have also used a paper shredder http://www.target.com/Ziszor-Portable-Handheld-Paper-Shredder/dp/B001E6MCKA
but is only cuts a 1/4 inch strips, the edges are rough and if purchasing one don't get a cross cut style. I used my office one to shred strips for a recycle project for a gallery show. I stripped magazines and quilled them. I have just found a pair of scissors http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14670874 that cuts multiple strips. I had a graphic design pair of these when I started quilling.
I have used two sided color copies of fabric and stripped them to make quilled quilt blocks for my quilting friends.

Thanks very much for the links and tips! Those herb scissors with the triple blades are amazing.

Quilled quilting blocks? Wow. I can't imagine how you'd do this, since fabric is much softer than paper. Must search and find out! Thanks!
